HANSEN DAM BASIN
The site investigation was conducted around the Hansen Dam Basin in the San Fernando Valley. The basin has a rich biodiversity with a large park area, and also houses several recreational activities provided by the City of L.A.. including the Hansen Dam Golf Course, one of Los Angeles' 20 public golf courses.
When Hera approached us, they had a very specific design plan in mind. We worked together to create a space that they would be happy with. Judging by the feedback we received from them, it seems that they were extremely pleased with our design.

AREAS OF FOCUS
The site investigation with field research and sample collection is the key aspect of our practice. All of our decisions are based on the findings from this investigation, which is why we conduct a thorough examination of current and historical conditions to better understand the possibilities of the site. The data and collected samples are analyzed for optimized utilization in the new development, such as if excavated soil can be repurposed for rammed earth construction.

Based on the findings of the research, including topography, geology, hydrology, and ecology, we can craft a highly site-specific design proposal in order to create architecture that works with rather than against the natural systems and resources of the site. The building type is selected based on the existing ground conditions, and the height and shape are being considered for ideal air flow for the area. Native vegetation that can thrive with little to no maintenance can help improve the air quality of the area, and so forth.
MAPPING
Detailed documentation of the site is being utilized whenever possible, such as the site maps below extracted from the L.A. Corp's Master Plan for the Hansen Dam Basin.
